What is AAT Treatment?
Advanced Allergy Therapeutics, or AAT, treatments use precision-based gentle acupressure techniques to treat the organ systems involved in an allergic reaction.
When you experience an allergic reaction, your body has an abnormal reaction to a harmless substance. The harmless substance, or allergen, causes your organs to overreact. These reactions may occur in any organ in the body, which results in the symptoms you feel. (Read more about allergic reactions here).
AAT works directly with the relationship between the major organ systems and inappropriate reactions to harmless substances.
While the immune system is responsible for initiating an immune reaction in the case of true allergies, it is the health and state of the organ systems that often determines the type of symptoms that may arise.
For example, one patient may have a reaction to soybean by getting rashes, while another patient may react with sinus congestion, heartburn or Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The symptoms in each of these cases represent a different organ system involved. The degree of stress on the organ systems caused by an allergen or offending agent is proportional to the degree of the negative reaction.
By treating the organ system(s) involved in a reaction, the body is able to respond more appropriately. AAT does not treat the immune system; instead, the therapy reduces the hyperactivity on the organ systems that are involved in the symptoms to recondition the body to respond more appropriately.
Advanced Allergy Therapeutics provides a highly effective and proven natural treatment that resolves symptoms associated with allergies and sensitivities.
How Does AAT Treatment Work?
The AAT method does not use needles. During treatment, gentle pressure is used to stimulate points on either side of the spine that correspond with the organ systems involved in the reaction. This directly accesses and reduces the stress on each individual organ system, improving the state of that system.
While the stimulation is applied, a subtle representation of the offending substance is introduced to the surface of the skin in the form of a digital signal that represents the actual substance. This unique approach is highly effective in correcting the inappropriate organ response rapidly, to relieve allergy and food sensitivity symptoms. This is what makes AAT Therapy unique, effective and successful.
Allergy & Sensitivity Assessment Test
AAT uses the stress test as a biofeedback technique to test if a substance is putting stress on the body. Digital signals that represent the actual substance are transmitted from the extensively researched computer database to your arm. If the Muscle Response Test indicates weakness, then the substance is causing stress to the body. AAT’s database allows for assessment and treatment of more allergens than conventional and other integrative therapies.
The following substances are assessed based on your symptoms for reactivity:
- Food (includes Medication and Supplements)
AAT Therapy and Holistic Medicine
AAT merges 21st-century science with 3,000-year-old traditional acupuncture principles in offering an effective alternative in the treatment of symptoms associated with allergies and sensitivities.
All holistic fields of medicine are aligned in the approach to treat the whole body. They share the understanding that health conditions may develop as a result of interference in proper functioning caused by various forms of stress or other factors.
Reducing the stress or interference allows for optimal health. When the specific organ system is supported and stress is reduced, the whole body is able to respond more appropriately.
How Many Sessions are Needed?
The number of sessions required depends on the number of items causing a reaction. For example, a patient who reacts to five families of substances (dairy, wheat, corn, animal dander and pollen) may require between 5 to 12 sessions to relieve the symptoms or resolve a condition.
Food components such as vitamins, minerals, sugars and food phenolics need to be treated before complex foods such as dairy or wheat. This means that we usually need to treat some preliminary substances before we can begin treating the primary offending allergen family.
The same is true for environmental offenders. There are preliminary treatments that must be done before we can treat the environmental offenders. We usually treat one allergen family per treatment (e.g. pollens or dairy).
How Soon Will I See Results?
Many people see relief with the first treatment or first few treatments. However, each case is different, and some patients require additional treatments to see results.
What Happens After My Treatment?
Following a session, a patient should avoid the substance that was treated for 2 hours. For some food items, 24 hours of avoidance is recommended.
Treatment success is great, even when a substance cannot be completely avoided (such as pollen and animals). However, if possible, we recommend that you don’t have excessive contact until the following day.

What Cannot Be Treated and Why?
AAT treatment can only address symptoms caused by inappropriate reactions to harmless substances or stimuli. AAT can help decrease and manage symptoms or overreactions in people with multiple chemical sensitivities, which can manifest as fragrance sensitivities, hypersensitive smell, headache/migraine, asthma, digestive or cardiac symptoms, joint pain, rashes, fatigue, brain fog, memory loss and confusion.
If the condition involves candida/mold, pathogens (i.e., bacteria or viruses) or microbes (i.e., parasites/protozoa), the AAT treatment can treat the related allergy and sensitivity symptoms; our other services are needed to treat the pathogens and microbes.
Through Durango Acupuncture, Allergy Specialist and Acupuncturist Caleb Gates uses Chinese Herbal Medicine and Field Control Therapy, a homotoxicology assessment and homeopathic detox therapy, both of which can address candida/mold, pathogens and microbes. Read more on our website.
We cannot treat Celiac Disease because it is an autoimmune disease. If your symptoms are related to a sensitivity to wheat or gluten, the treatment can be very effective. However, Celiac Disease is not an allergy.
AAT cannot treat true lactose intolerance. Again, if the symptoms are related to a sensitivity to milk or other dairy products, the treatment can be very effective. However, lactose intolerance is not an allergy; it is the inability to digest certain amounts of lactose, the major sugar found in milk. The condition is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme lactase, which is produced by the cells of the lining in the small intestine. Lactose intolerance is often confused with dairy allergies because the symptoms are similar, yet they are unrelated.
However, the two conditions can occur together and, in such cases, our treatments can offer partial benefit.
Durango Allergy Relief does not diagnose allergies, sensitivities or allergies.
The AAT system simply assesses what may be causing a stress to the body.
AAT does not test for allergies or sensitivities.
AAT does not cure allergies, nor does the therapy treat the immune system.
AAT does not treat cases of anaphylaxis or life threatening symptoms. Strict avoidance is always advised in these cases. However, patients with an anaphylactic reaction may be treated for other sensitivities that are not life-threatening.
